Is Phone Photography Art?

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Since the invention of the first DSLR around the turn of the millennium cameras have been getting more powerful, smaller and faster. As the technology has advanced we have started to see cameras moving down from digital compact cameras to tiny little things that can be integrated with other portable devices, the most common being mobile phones. For me this brings us into a really interesting space, everyone has a camera with them all of the time.

Long Panorama of breakdancers

We have been very busy lately and haven’t had much time for blog posting. One of the most exciting things we have been working on is an advert for Insatiable music. We are creating an animated ad, working in partnership with Kuma Studios. In between times we have been working really hard to pull together a cohesive promo pack for a break dance troupe called Groundhogs.

Portrait of a local entrepreneurMajor apology for not posting so long, we haven’t had a moment to spare for months, we have been really busy photographing portraits, making presentation videos and moving our website to many different servers. Our blog is now powered by Wordpress and hosted on our own server, this has been a big learning curve for us and has taken up every moment of time when we aren’t working on our clients projects. We have also added the ability to send newsletters from our site, if you fancy one you can sign up here. We want to keep our newsletters nice and fun with something useful, not only are we going to be giving away some really cool desktops to spice up your computer but we are going to get together a set of resources to help people learn about the most effective ways to use digital media to enhance their business.

During the site update we have added a new string to our digital bow in the form of a new photography section. We have been working hard on a series of commercial portraiture jobs lately. The photo you see to the right is an image of a young up and coming entrepreneur called Luke. He is the managing director of a company called YQ Vending. We expect to see big things coming from him soon.

Doxmart LogoWe would like to say a big thank to Doxmart who have been a really big help to us in during this time. They have helped us with all kinds of problems with the gremlins that live in the internet and break things when you’re not looking, from giving us tips on the best way to do things to making helping us make our mailing list and blog work. Thanks guys.

Say goodbye to The Dirty Backbeats

Monday, December 15th, 2008

The weekend just past marks a momentous event in the history of Leicester, The Dirty Backbeats played their last ever gig. The gig itself going on until one in the morning at Sumo, a venue they have been playing at since the very early beginnings. Having been such a large catalyst in the Leicester music scene we felt that this final gig needed to be recorded. We were there with our SLR and a wide angle lens.

We have been following The Dirty Backbeats around for quite some time and have developed a little archive of content. Below are some of the videos from our archive. Some of you may remember braunstonegate.com, now a defunct website. All of the content you see below was produced for this website.

The video player requires Adobe Flash.

The Dirty Backbeats will be sorely missed. We wish you luck with all your future endeavors.

Rockingham and blog re-design!

Rockingham Panorama

It has been a busy couple of weeks here at the Media Renegades studio, we have been working hard to get our new website finished and online whilst meeting our all other deadlines. We hope that you like the new look of our blog, and will take some time out to explore our new site as well. It’s not completely finished yet, but we have been saying all along that we will get it nicely rounded off for January, which we should be on target for.

The pic that you see above is a shot we snapped quickly whilst at Rockingham racing circuit. We were there working on a project for Road User Education (RUE), who had been left in a bit of a pickle by another production company who had used some footage from a Microsoft game that they couldn’t get clearance for. Fortunately we were able to come up with a solution to the problem; to create our own video footage treated in the style a video game. All it involved was a quick visit to Rockingham, Europe’s fastest racing circuit, for a really quick shoot. Then we had a quick sit down with Chris from Rockingham who let us go though some of their own promotional footage which they were kind enough to let us use for this production. All this combined meant that we were able to produce a really nice piece for RUE within the time frame and budget.

Keep checking back for updates, we should have a lot more coming soon.
